Quantcast

1970s style

The 1970s is known for its bold and often unusual colors, shag-pile carpeting, textured wall coverings and molded plastic furniture. Where the 60s pushed the boundaries of taste, the 1970′s rolled over them with a steamroller. Color schemes turned darker and the use of wood increased in home decor except woods like birch and white oak were replaced by darker woods like teak and dark stained pine. Appliances and bathroom fixtures came in colors like avocado and harvest gold. Fabric patterns abounded with broad stripes and florals utilized colors like brown, purple, orange, and yellow sometimes even at the same time. Furniture lost it’s sleek minimal look and became fatter and overstuffed. Although many consider this to be a dark time in furniture design, I think that a decade that spawned the creation of the Lava Lamp be all bad?

Yorkville Sectional Sofa Silver

Finding a modern sectional sofa that has some contemporary style but doesn’t kick you in the pocketbook can be a challenge but the Yorkville Sectional Sofa by Red Living just may fit the bill.  Sectional sofas are very popular in today’s contemporary homes.for many reasons. The 90 degree angle of a sectional sofa fits into the corner of your room and helps to maximize your seating space. a modular sofa can be re-arranged or even separated to create several decorating options for the same living space. In a larger space they can be used to divide out a smaller and more intimate room withing a room.

But the main reason I love the modern sectional sofa is because of the communal space it creates where the entire family can relax and lounge together in a way that a sofa and love seat combination just doesn’t allow. That is what makes the Yorkville Sectional Sofa the ideal choice for a family room or recreation room. The generous proportions of this cool modern modular sofa offers a number of seating, reclining and all out power lounging opportunities for every member of your family. Television time at my house usually involves everyone entwined in there own comfortable position including the family dog.

The durable fabric that the Yorkville Sectional Sofa is upholstered in is another reason that this modern modular sofa is great for a family. The rayon, acrylic and polyester fabric blend makes cleanup much easier for those inevitably mishaps yet it still looks terrific. I have shown the silver upholstery but there are several other fabric colors to choose from and even leather upholstered models if little kids or the family dog isn’t an issue.

The Yorkville Sectional Sofa has the casual, overstuffed look of a sofa designed in the 60′s or 70′s with it’s low, tufted button back and tubular chromed metal feet but it doesn’t just look cool tucked into a corner. This retro style modular sofa works great for dividing a larger room into a smaller more cozy space. The retro, tufted button look continues on the back and sides so it looks hip and cool from all sides. It is available in both a left facing or a right facing version or you can get one of each put both sides together to make one massive seating area.

Yorkville Sectional Side View

Best of all this comfortable modern sectional sofa is priced at an affordable $1,799.00, an amazing value considering the price of a comparable modern sofa alone. You can buy the Yorkville Sectional Sofa or just get the three seat sofa or armless two-seater sofa separately but they are only available exclusively from Fashion For Home.

Mod Diner Booths from the 1970s

When I was a kid growing up in the late 60′s and early 70′s , the classic booth was an American dining standard whether it was in a roadside diner, old-time truck stop or the local greasy spoon café. Don’t you wish you could capture that mod, retro look of a 70′s diner in your own kitchen or home? But where do you go to buy a classic retro booth? Much less a cool retro style booth that looks like it was snatched right out of your fondest 1970′s memories. Well, the folks at

You see, this contemporary swivel chair is formed using three colors of natural brown rattan. Ok, I know what you are thinking, rattan? Isn’t that pretty traditional and mainly for outdoor furniture? Well isn’t breaking conventions what modern furniture is all about? Sitting on a retro chrome swivel base and wrapped around a sturdy steel frame, the fun round

Zita Floor Lamp by Molto Luce

Retro Yet Ultra-Contemporary Floor Lamp It is easy to see why the 70s throwback Zita Floor Lamp, is the winner of a Design Plus Award. The large, 1 1/2′ tall dome-shaped spun aluminum shade has wide strips cut down the sides and it looks a bit like Roman soldier’s helmet. The openings allow you to see the interior of the retro-style floor lamp which come in either white for a clean, minimalist look or a cool melon colored interior for a hint of color. The Zita Floor Lamp was designed
