Who Is B2 Modern?

Just in case you are wondering what compels me to write my B2Modern Blog, here is a bit of information about me. I love all kinds of things that have a modern, retro or mid-century aesthetic, especially modern furniture. It seems like I have been around it, influenced by it, selling it or furnishing my home with it all of my life. As a child, my grandparents owned an iconic modern home designed by Marcel Breuer, a distant relative, famous Bauhaus architect and designer of the Wassily Chair. It was completely furnished in amazing modern furniture and I remember spending holidays and summers there surrounded by what I now know to be iconic modern mid-century furniture. I literally ate my morning Wheaties at a Knoll Tulip Table and Chair set designed by Saarinen.

I grew up in Daytona Beach Florida which was a bit of a mid-century Mecca with themed motels like the Aku Tiki and the Hawaiian Inn and big, bold neon signs lining the beach on Highway A1A, only a few which remain today. My father owned a local lighting store and is a certified lighting designer specializing in contemporary lighting. It is from him that I picked up much of my knowledge and love of contemporary lighting.
As a young adult, I attended art school in Tucson, Arizona where I developed a distinctly retro illustration style and specialized in logo design. In Tucson I discovered a passion for the classic retro neon signs and mid-century architecture that still largely remains and I spent a hot summer traveling the back roads of old Route 66 with my camera trying to photograph these retro neon relics before they disappeared for one reason or another.
After moving to Scottsdale, Arizona I worked in several local art galleries and modern and contemporary furniture stores while I returned to school to learn web design and marketing. I now live in an odd mid-century home with a sunken conversation pit and a raised fire pit in my living room in Florida that I am remodeling and furnishing in mid-century furniture that I mostly recover from thrift shops.
So it is with this odd array of talents and experience that I blog about the furniture and lighting I know and love as well as the new things I discover every day. I do not sell any of the items I blog about, however if you are interesting in buying anything you discover in my ruminations, please follow the links I give within each post and buy directly from the items manufacturer or retailer.
