Champinones Rug From Switch Modern

The Champinones Rug is an earthy and interesting modern rug design produced by the Spanish company Gandía-Blasco. It has unique, irregular shaped edges and is produced using hand-tufted, 100% new wool backed with cotton backsizing. It is at once contemporary and organic and to me it has the look of small round river rocks or even a bed of white mushrooms. The rug comes in two rectangular sizes and a nifty round version that is great for any number of decorating situations.
Gandía-Blasco is based in Valencia Spain and is probably best known for their large catalog of modern outdoor furniture. Many people don’t know that the company was founded by José A. Gandía-Blasco in 1941 as a manufacturer of blankets and other textiles aimed mainly at the military and hospitals of post-war Spain.
In the 1980′s, when international competition began to seriously erode the company’s ability to survive they made a bold business move to save the company. José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales, current president of the company and designer of the Champinones Rug took greater control of the company and used the old equipment to begin creating new and modern rug designs that used innovations like reversible rugs with colorful patterns on one side and more plain and conservative designs on the other. They now create a full line of hand-woven rugs and carpets with geometric patterns, abstracts shapes and bold designs.
The Champinones Rug is a great example of the unusual and contemporary patterns that set them apart from other modern rug manufacturers. Switch Modern has en extraordinary collection of these unique and exciting modern rug designs as well as a variety of other cool modern furniture accessories and just plain fun stuff.
